TIMES MALAYSIA, JAKARTA – Expo Polinema 2024 which was held on Wednesday (22/5/2024) presented architectural works from Civil Engineering students of the State Polytechnic of Malang (Polinema) which won the championship. This work won second place in the Indonesian Building Competition (KBGI) at Tarumanagara University in 2022.

The project was successfully run because it was designed to withstand earthquakes by prioritizing environmentally friendly buildings in its design. Civil Engineering students of State Polytechnic of Malang rely on environmentally friendly materials such as Wood Plastic Composite (WPC) to reduce building loads, and also provide a new perspective in the world of construction industry.

Ahmad Fakhi Zukhruf Aulana, the Civil Engineering booth committee explained that they had to compete with 16 designs by students from all over Indonesia.

“We have prepared the materials, prepared the design such as the shape of the structural design and style, and immediately implemented it on site within only 2 hours,” Ahmad Fakhi Zukhruf  Aulana said.

In addition, there were challenges during the competition, such as time management and tests on a special table where the vibration frequency can be adjusted up to 10 minutes.

The result of making this earthquake-resistant building mock-up was a great success. The Civil Engineering student team of the State Polytechnic of Malang exhibited the mock-up at the Expo Polinema 2024 event and attracted many visitors.

All these victories are due to teamwork that can support each other and also believe in themselves. They can bring the good name of the State Polytechnic of Malang campus in this Competition in front of other competitors.

Civil Engineering students from the State Polytechnic of Malang hope that their building design can be developed further. This building mockup still has the potential to compete again in the national arena. In addition, this project can also be developed with more practical and lightweight materials.

“We hope that there will be new students who can continue these ideas into works that can bring the good name of the campus and can also be useful for the construction industry,” he said.

The Expo held at the Graha Polinema Building not only showcased the work of the State Polytechnic of Malang students. The event was also attended by some of the best vocational colleges such as Madiun State Polytechnic, Army Polytechnic, Vocational University of Brawijaya and others.

“The number of booths here reaches 45 with 16 research results from our students exhibited in their respective departments, the rest are from other campuses,” said Sapto Wibowo, Chairman of the Expo Committee of State Polytechnic of Malang.

Sapto said that the Expo exhibition activity held at the State Polytechnic of Malang is a wide door for the younger generation to develop their research results. In addition, the public can also find out the scientific works of vocational students. (*)
